Frequent or painful urination
Blood in the urine
Nausea and vomiting
Small stones may pass without causing symptoms.
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a surgery used to treat urinary problems due to an enlarged prostate. A combined visual and surgical instrument (resectoscope) is inserted through the tip of your penis and into the tube that carries urine from your bladder (urethra). The prostate surrounds the urethra.
A cystoscope is a thin tube with a camera and light on the end. During a cystoscopy, this tube is inserted through your urethra and into your bladder so the doctor can visualize the inside of your bladder. Your urethra is the tube that carries urine out of your bladder.
Ureteroscopy is where a long thin rigid telescope is introduced into the upper urinary tract via the bladder (see diagram below). The diameter of the instrument is less than 2mm and allows visualisation of the lower half of the ureter.
